CORE AERATION
Soil may become compacted to the point that it is too dense to allow adequate circulation of air, water and nutrients within the soil. Excess lawn thatch or heavy organic debris buried under the grass surface can also starve the roots from these essential elements. Core aeration is a process that removes and displaces quarter-sized plugs of soil that reach 2"- 4" deep into the ground, loosens the soil and breaks up excess thatch so that oxygen, moisture and nutrients are able to move more easily into the turf’s root zone. Core Aeration results in a stronger, more vigorously healthy lawn.
SPRING AND FALL ARE THE BEST TIMES TO AERATE
Our Core Aeration service is completed in the spring and fall by our trained and knowledgeable specialists, using commercial grade aerators. The best time for aeration is during the growing season, when the grass can heal and fill in any open areas after soil plugs are removed. Ideally, aerate the lawn with cool season grass in the early spring or fall and those with warm season grass in the late spring.
The cores are left on the lawn to naturally decompose and release the natural fertilizers built up in the clay. We recommend our fertilization program following core aeration.
Key Benefits of the Service
Core aeration can help make your lawn healthier and reduce its maintenance requirements through these means:
Improved air exchange between the soil and atmosphere
Enhanced soil water uptake
Improved fertilizer uptake and use
Reduced water runoff and puddling
Stronger turfgrass roots
Reduced soil compaction
Enhanced heat and drought stress tolerance
Improved resiliency and cushioning
Enhanced thatch breakdown
